Animation for On the Edge, illustrating the wacky phenomenon known as parthenogenesis. In 2021, a California Condor hatched from an unfertilised egg in San Diego Zoo. It was the first 'virgin birth' ever recorded among wild birds! And because the male chick had no genetic link to any male, he was biologically fatherless. The illustrations show other animals which have recorded instances of parthenogenesis
